Organization Mission and Purpose:
The Mission of TLC of South Jersey is to work together with the community to raise awareness and support for people with intellectual disabilities through programming which fosters wellbeing, accomplishment and inclusion for people of all ages as they strive to tackle life’s challenges.
TLC of South Jersey was founded in December of 2012 with the primary goal of providing support, training and encouragement to an important group of special people. We are committed to ensuring that people with intellectual disabilities experience feelings of accomplishment, friendship, inclusion and overall wellbeing. The primary objective to accomplish this goal is the operation and growth of the TLC Hurricanes, a Burlington County-based training program for participants to compete in the Special Olympics of NJ. As the organization evolves, plans are being formed to expand services beyond the playing field to include work skills, job coaching, and employment coordination throughout the community.
Program Description:
TLC of South Jersey is governed and managed by a Board of Directors who are committed to executing the mission and purpose of the organization. The leaders donate their time and talents to organize, promote, fund and operate this Burlington County-based training program. The Board is committed to accomplishing the mission and objectives with no administrative burden to the organization. As such, 100% of the funds raised are used toward the support of our programs and athletes. There are no costs for athletes to participate and compete.
TLC of South Jersey is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization operating independently of Special Olympics of NJ and the Special Olympics worldwide. We are responsible for independently raising all funds to support programs and athletes and do not receive any direct funding from Special Olympics of NJ or Special Olympics Worldwide.
TLC of South Jersey provides services without discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, religion, disability, marital status, gender identity, sexual orientation, or veteran status. We provide training, resources and support for athletes to compete in the following Special Olympics of NJ sports: basketball, bowling, soccer, softball and golf, and we have plans to offer floor hockey in 2017.
